That night, they let us out our cages
And we romped wild through the long grass,
Chasing the stars that speckled the sky.
And we met where a pool of polished glass,
Held the moon like a love swelled eye.
Then we stayed there all through the night,
Nestling together, holding each other tight,
Watching as the moon slid out of sight,
And the sleek black pool grew slowly light.
That night they let us out: you and me,
And for once in our lives we really were free.
